DISCOVER THE TEAM ECHELON DIFFERENCE

Welcome to the best!
We are the best team! The best group of people you will ever meet!
We are TEAM ECHELON!

If you like to have fun and don't fit the traditional "Triathlon Club" or "Bike Racing Club" mold, come join us for a ride or a club meeting!

Do you participate in more than one sport? Do you not have anyone on your current team that will do something a little different with you? Do you want to have a group of people to train with that enjoy what they are doing? Are you fast? Are you slow? No matter what you are or what you are interested in, Team Echelon has room for you!

We are a New Jersey based multisport group comprised of all kinds of people who love to swim, bike, run and enjoy everything outdoors. We have Competitive Racers, Fitness Enthusiasts, we welcome beginners and have assisted many new athletes in accomplishing first time goals. While we are based in New Jersey we have members throughout the United States.

What is Team Echelon?

We are a group of beginners to highly competitive athletes. We are runners, cyclists, and triathletes who work hard to do our personal best. Team Echelon members are committed to inclusion. We know the person running a 6 hour marathon is working to do their best, just like the people fighting for the win. We do centuries, hill climbs and charity rides, in addition to the racing, and we have our sights set on all sorts of other activities in the future. Team Echelon is a registered Team with both USA Cycling and USA Triathlon.

But most of all, we like to have fun. We all realize that none of us are NOT going to the Tour de France as competitors but that does not stop us from playing hard, racing hard and having a great time doing it.

As the leader of the team, I am a cycling and triathlon coach and I believe in doing things the right way so rest assured you will get expert guidance and support in doing things you never thought you could do.

Do I have to be fast?

No! Not at all! You only need to be willing to laugh, to have fun and to give back to the community and to fellow athletes. We follow the Team Echelon Code of Conduct so that we never treat people the way that some of us have been treated. We race hard, train hard and celebrate hard. We have people on the team that just learned to ride this year. We have people on the team that are winning their age groups. Our fastest people ride with our slowest people to help them become better and to learn. You don't even have to race, but with all the fun we have, we bet you'll want to.

Where do you ride, run, swim, play?

We ride, run and swim mostly in central New Jersey. We have a growing group in Las Vegas! So soon we will be offering Team Echelon Training Camps in sunny, warm Nevada! For now, we ride mostly in Somerset and Hunterdon counties. We like to run along the D and R canal and other places in Somerset and Hunterdon counties. We swim at various pools, Hunterdon YMCA, Bridgewater YMCA, Bridgewater JCC, Berkeley Heights Swim Club and the Somerset Hills YMCA. We post all of our rides, runs and events on our Team Echelon e-mail group that is only open to team members. If you are interested in meeting our group to see if we are for you, please e-mail any one of the team captains for the best time and place to meet with us.

A lot of people ask me where did the name come from? What does Echelon mean?

Pronunciation:
\'e-sh?-?län\
Function:
noun
Etymology:
French échelon, literally, rung of a ladder, from Old French eschelon, from eschele ladder, from Late Latin scala Date: 1796
1: an arrangement of a body of troops with its units each somewhat to the left or right of the one in the rear like a series of steps
2: a formation of units or individuals resembling such an echelon <geese flying in echelon>
2a: one of a series of levels or grades in an organization or field of activity
<involved employees at every echelon>
b: a group of individuals at a particular level or grade in an organization
<the upper echelons of the bureaucracy>

When I see the geese flying over head in the aerodynamic 'V' shape, I smile and think about this Team. Bike riders do the same thing when the wind is not straight ahead to get the best draft. If you watch any professional bike race, you will see riders fan out across the road slightly off from each other - this is called riding in an echelon. And of course, echelon is a level. We are "Your Next Level!" I can't think of a better dual meaning for our team.
